About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Journal of Mobile, Embedded and Distributed Systems (JMEDS) is an open access peer reviewed and indexed international journal that publishes the latest results of researches and developed solutions in the field of mobile, embedded and distributed systems. The journal offers to engineers, software developers, mathematicians and scientists, the possibilities:

  • to present original ideas and research results;
  • to establish new collaborations within current and future research projects;
  • to establish academic collaborations;
  • to link the university research with the industry.

JMEDS aims to attract young researchers and to provide them a way to publish their work. Young researchers that are in the final year or have finished their PhD or MSc program in 2006, 2007, 2008 or 2009, are invited to send a paper that describes personal contributions to any of the journal topics. JMEDS is an open journal that provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Researchers or developers interested in proposing a special issue are invited to contact the Journal Editor.

Published twice a year, JMEDS includes articles, case studies, surveys, tutorial articles and book reviews that emphasize the research and application of mobile and embedded technologies:

  • Mobile Technologies and Protocols;
  • Embedded Systems;
  • Embedded Technologies;
  • Information Security in Mobile and Distributed Systems;
  • IT&C Security;
  • Web 2.0 and 3.0;
  • Emerging Web-based Systems;
  • Smart Environments;
  • Web Mining and Farming;
  • Web Security;
  • Web Technologies and Protocols;
  • Web Agents and Agent-based Systems;
  • Knowledge Grid and Grid intelligence;
  • Agent Infrastructure and Architecture;
  • Distributed Intelligence;
  • Web based Support Systems;
  • Web Services, Services Discovery & Composition;
  • Wearable, Wireless and Mobile e-interfacing;
  • E-Applications and E-Learning;
  • M-Applications and M-Learning;
  • Cloud Computing;
  • Web-Oriented Architectures;

The audience for the JMEDS journal includes researchers, scholars, postgraduate students and developers who are interested in Mobile, Embedded and Distributed Systems research and related issues. JMEDS will provide reviews of the cutting–edge mobile , embedded and distributed systems technologies and insights for implementing them. The journal will be a valuable library reference for research fellows, postgraduate and senior undergraduate students who are researching Mobile, Embedded and Distributed Systems.

JMEDS journal aims to open collaborations with major societies and international conferences in these fields.

Peer Review Process

Papers should be in accordance with the author’s guidelines and to meet the general standards of quality and originality.

A double peer review process will be applied to all submitted materials and all authors will be quickly notified about publication decision.

Review Process

All submitted papers are evaluated by a well established, fair, impartial peer review and refereeing procedure. The peer review process is a blind one and is done by well recognized scientists from JMEDS editorial board, scientific board and independent reviewers.

The language of the submitted paper is English. The paper must be free of grammatically errors. The quality of the paper language is evaluated and if necessary, authors must improve it for the final versions of the paper.

Each manuscript is evaluated in blind by three persons, taking into consideration six assessment criterions and one eliminatory condition. Each submitted manuscript can receive a maximum of 10 points. The acceptance decision is made, based a low limit of 6 points. Under this limit, the paper is rejected.

  • Is the paper content related to the ICT field and the volume topic (this is an eliminatory condition) - Yes/No
  1. The paper degree of analysis and presentation– 0.5 p.
  2. Comparison of the work with previous similar works in the literature - 1 p.
  3. The paper describes a mathematical model or solves some practical problem – 2 p.
  4. The model can be implemented by a standalone software application, a large system or communication protocol – 2 p.
  5. The paper has a high scientific level – 4 p.
    • the paper content is original
    • the paper opens new directions for future research
    • the authors method/solution is better
    • the paper describes a solution for a practical problem
  6. References are adequate (there are accepted 1-2 references of authors previous work related to the paper content) - 0.5 p.

The review output, based on the paper evaluation results, will be one of the following:

  • Accept as it is
  • Accept with changes
  • Reject

The author(s) will receive the results of the evaluation in one month from the submission date.

Revised and Final Version Submission

Accepted manuscripts should be revised according to the comments of the reviewers. Final versions of the papers must be submitted using the JMEDS’s formatting style (see the Author Guidelines in the About section).

Publication Frequency

Between 2009 and 2010 the journal has been published two issues each year. Since 2011, JMEDS is published quarterly. Its goal is to achieve international recognition through a high visibility in well-known international academic databases.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Editorial Board

The Journal of Mobile, Embedded and Distributed Systems is continuously seeking professionals, from educational and industry fields, to join the Editorial Board. If you are interested in becoming an Editor, please send your CV and a summary of your specific expertise and interests to the editor [at] jmeds.eu email address. Your request will be reviewed and if it is appropriate, you will become a member of JMEDS Editorial Board.
